CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, July 9 (PNA) -– About 130 young legislators in the country have converged in this trading hub for a three-day summit that would focus on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and peace in Mindanao.
The young legislators are members of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) composed of vice governors, Provincial Board members, mayors, and city and municipal councilors from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao whose ages are under 40 years old.
Eric Recinto, NMYL vice president, said on Thursday that the summit started Wednesday and would wind up on Friday. Recinto is a member of the provincial board of Sultan Kudarat in Cotabato.
“This is the first time that the NMYL is holding the national summit in Mindanao. The NMYL wants to showcase to the members from as far as Luzon and the Visayas that Mindanao is peaceful,” Recinto said.
The NMYL would also want to correct the impression that the drafting of the BBL has caused chaos and affected the peaceful lives of the people of Mindanao, Recinto said.
“Mindanao is still the safest place to visit and one of the objectives of the three-day summit is to promote tourism destinations in the island,” Recinto said.
He said that the NMYL would pass a resolution urging the members of the Senate to scrutinize the proposed BBL to make sure that its passage would ensure the attainment of a lasting peace in Mindanao.
According to Recinto, as young legislators, they offer hope for the country in the future.
“Our young legislators today are innovative and are conscious of the rotten political system that it hopes to rectify,” Recinto said. (PNA)
Most people are sensible (matitino). They can sift through the hate and propaganda and they can tell juts by looking at the mouthpieces like a discredited opposition using every opportunity to hit back at the Aquino administration.
