DAVAO CITY, (PNA) — Photographer Perkins Bayron of Bayron’s Photoshop ruled the first Davao Executive & Employees Chess tournament held Sunday at the NCCC Mall.
Bayron carded 4.5 points and edged out businessman Rodrigo Catayas in a tiebreak after the five round Swiss system format to win P2,500 cash and a trophy.
Catayas settled for second place with P1,500 and a medal.
Third was bakeshop owner Ramil Langamon with 4.0 points who bested lawyer Jong Guevarra (4.0) of Toril also in a tiebreaker.
Cris Cuntapay took fifth place with 3.5 points.
The special awards went to QT Marketing’s Reynaldo de Guzman (Best Employee), Atty. Melzar Galicia (Top Executive); Daniel Leonor (Top Unrated); and Germany’s Arnold Fritz (Top Senior).
The prizes were awarded by IA James Infiesto, regional director of the National Chess Federation of the Phils. (NCFP).
The chief arbiter was Alfred Moulic while the arbiters were Samuel Yu, Mardy Delalamon and Jocelyn Den Ramirez.
The tournament was held in coordination with the Davao City Sports Consumer Cooperative.
The second leg will be held on the second week of November.
