Former President Fidel V. Ramos to visit Neg Occ on Oct. 18

Posted on October 14, 2013

BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — Former President Fidel V. Ramos, also known as FVR, will visit Negros Occidental on Oct. 18 to attend various events in the cities of Bacolod and Bago and Salvador Benedicto town.

In Bacolod, he will deliver a congratulatory message for the city’s 75th Charter Anniversary/Diamond Year on Oct. 19.

The former president, who served from 1992-1998, will also grace the inauguration of the longest zip line in Negros Occidental dubbed the “Mt. Everest Zip Line.”

The zip line was conceptualized by Arturo Valdez, head of the First Filipino Expedition team to Mt. Everest in 2006. Valdez was also undersecretary of the Department of Transportation and Communication during the Ramos administration.

Salvador Benedicto Mayor Jose Max Ortiz said the municipality will unveil a marker for FVR in honor of his visit.

Known as the “Summer Capital of Negros Occidental,” Salvador Benedicto is gradually diversifying its agriculture into growing organic vegetables, cut flowers, and high-value fruits such as strawberries and asparagus.

In Bago, Ramos will be welcomed by Mayor Ramon Torres and Vice Mayor Nicholas Yulo.

The former president will visit the Tan Juan Araneta Museum, which houses the gift to the city of Menchu Salas, wife of scholar and local hero Rafael M. Salas, a good friend of FVR.

Ramos will also plant a high premium endangered tree, the Black Kamagong, inside the museum’s compound.
