Rudy’s friends to perform at Enpress awards

Posted on June 21, 2008

PNS — NOW it can be told.

Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla and their good friend Phillip Salvador, bosom buddies of the late actor Rudy Fernandez are performing at the 5th Golden Screen Awards of the Entertainment Press Society on Tuesday, June 24, at Zirkoh Greenhills.

This was relayed to us by Sen. Jinggoy himself via a phone conversation we had with him last Tuesday night. When he learned that ENPRESS and the Golden Screen Awards are honoring Daboy with a Posthumous Award, Jinggoy says he’s volunteering to sing at the awards night, together with Bong and Ipe. He told us to relay this message to the members of ENPRESS and the Golden Screen Awards.

Aside from doing a song number, they will also receive on Daboy’s behalf the posthumous award to be given to the actor who succumbed to cancer last June 7.

It is Sen. Jinggoy’s idea that he and his friends sing during the awards night. And they are singing live, huh? It was also Jinggoy who talked to Bong and Ipe so they would readily agree. “Para hindi na sila makatanggi,” the senator jokingly said.

This is only the second time that the three will be seen sharing together the same stage and singing for their beloved friend since Daboy was brought to his final resting place last June 12.

If you recall, one of the most touching moments during the last night of Daboy’s wake was the program where Daboy’s friends paid tribute to the actor. One of the highlights of the program was the song number by the three good friends. They rendered a new version of the song “Doon Lang,” with new lyrics written by Tirso Cruz III. They plan to sing the same song at the Golden Screen Awards.

Although Jinggoy is still planning to ask Pip what song they would sing at the event, I suggested that they sing “Doon Lang” because not too many people were able to hear them sing the song live, especially those who were not present during the final night of Rudy’s wake

Sen. Jinggoy is elated with his victory as in the category musical or best actor for his fine performance in the comedy flick “Katas ng Saudi” produced by Jinggoy’s Ma-verick Films’ production outfit.

Lorna won as best actress award for comedy in “Katas ng Saudi.”

Thru this column, the officers and members of Enpress and the Golden Screen Awards are expressing their heartfelt thanks to Senators Jinggoy and Bong at Kuya Ipe and are looking forward to a fun and happy night. Their presence will make the awards night a success.

The 5th Golden Screen Awards to be hosted by Rufa Mae Quinto, John Lapus, and JC de Vera will be held on June 24. Among the invited guest performers are Erik Santos.

Since the awards night is also a fund-raising event of EnPress, tickets worth P300 are being sold to the public and are available at Zirkoh Greenhills.

The event is made possible by the following sponsors: Hataw!, Filgen ST Scouring Pad, Gran- Matador, KSA Whitening Products, Stellar Accessories, Edward dela Cuesta Photography, Fernando’s Bakery, Joy Lim’s Charms and Crystals, and HBC Splash.
