MANILA, (PNA) — With Typhoon Santi expected to batter most of Luzon, the Northern Luzon Command Friday announced that it alerted all its units for possible disaster relief missions.
“In view of Typhoon Santi, troops in the Northern Luzon Command area of responsibility that would be directly hit by the typhoon are placed on alert for disaster response,” Northern Luzon Command acting spokesperson Major Emmanuel Garcia said.
He added that the 7th Infantry Division in particular has directed the 56th Infantry Battalion covering Aurora to prepare for any eventuality and respond if the need arise.
“The different disaster response units (DRUs) of the 7th Infantry Division and 5th Infantry Division were placed on standby to augment units in assisting local communities in the estimated direct path of ‘Santi’,” Garcia stressed.
He added that each battalion has one company as DRU and each other company has one platoon as disaster response team to augment the latter unit if needed.
