ILOILO CITY, (PNA) — The Commission on Elections in Iloilo Province is set to accept certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the barangay elections on Oct. 28, starting Friday.
Provincial Election Supervisor Elizabeth Doronila said the filing of COCs, which will run until Oct. 17, will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Oct. 13.
The campaign period will start Oct. 18 and will end two days before the elections.
Doronila reminded candidates to observe the prohibitions under the Omnibus Election Code.
In place are the gun ban, liquor ban, prohibition of transfer and detail of employees and officials under the Civil Service Commission (CSC), among others.
Doronila added that premature campaign and vote buying are highly prohibited thus, she is encouraging candidates to properly follow the rules.
“Candidates should wait for the right time for them to campaign so that they will not be charged of early campaigning or the so-called premature campaign,” she warned.
Doronila also emphasized that the barangay election is non-partisan and candidates should remain apolitical.
