COMELEC assigns reg’l director for Western Visayas

Posted on October 10, 2013

BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has assigned Remlani Tambuang as regional director for Western Visayas during the election period for the Oct. 28 barangay polls.

Tambuang, who was previously assigned in Region 11 (Davao Region), replaced Dennis Ausan as regional director of Region 6 effective October 1.

During his visit at the COMELEC-Negros Occidental office here Thursday, Tambuang told reporters his assignment in Western Visayas is only temporary.

COMELEC Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. has implemented a reshuffling of regional directors and provincial supervisors for the barangay elections.

“I am the official regional director, I will sign all the documents. The order of the Chairman is for Director Ausan to assist me,” he said.

For his part, Ausan said he did not take a leave.

“I was not relieved and I am still functioning my mandated functions,” he said.

Ausan said that officially, Tambuang will sign the documents as official election director of Region 6 “at least for the entire election period until Nov. 12.”

COMELEC-6 has no assistant election director because Assistant Regional Director Tomas Varela was assigned as the acting regional director of Region 11.

“The Chairman’s order is for me to work closely with him (Tambuang), to closely collaborate with him. In all the tasks of a director, we share work,” Ausan said.

He added that Tambuang consults him before making decisions because he is not familiar with the peculiarities of the region.
