ILOILO CITY, (PNA)– Nine passengers were hospitalized when the passenger jeepney they were riding in fell into the rice paddies somewhere in the boundary between barangays Mianay at Amaga Sigma, Capiz.
Presently confined at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Roxas City were Grace Besa, 38; Ralph Quinsola, 26 years old and jeepney conductor Bernabe Hernandez for sustaining serious injuries in the different parts of their bodies as an aftermath of the vehicular mishap.
While slightly injured passengers were Villanueva, Ethelda Fadrigo, Jan Sherwin Funcion, Danilo Villanueva, Nida Canaway and Mary Jane Fantiga.
Initial investigation conducted by the Sigma PNP said the passenger jeepney carrying some 22 passengers onboard mostly students overtook another vehicle ahead.
Because of its speed, the jeepney driver Norman Fantilaga lost control of the steering wheel that saw the vehicle plunged into the rice paddies that resulted to injuries of its passengers.
The jeepney-laden passengers was on its way to Dumalag town when the fateful vehicular accident happened along the highway in Sigma town.
The police is presently investigating the vehicular accident while the erring driver Fantilaga of Dumalag was ordered detained at the lock-up cell of the Sigma Police Station for further investigation and the possible filing of appropriate charges against him.
