UFL Cup kicks off on Oct. 12 at Emperador Stadium at The Fort

Posted on October 9, 2013

MANILA, (PNA)– Twenty three clubs, including six guest teams will participate in the 2013-2014 United Football League’s fifth edition kickoff on Saturday at the Emperador Stadium, McKinley Hill at the Fort in Taguig City with Pachanga Diliman FC vs Laos FC at 6 p.m. , followed by Manila Jeepney FC vs Ceres-La Salle FC at 8 p.m.

Stallion FC are the reigning champions, having defeated Global FC at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in 2012. The current Philippine Football Federation National Club Championship winner is Ceres-La Salle FC., according to UFC pro Jim Jamlang

The competition is expected to run from Oct. 12 to Dec. beginning with a single round robin group stage where a single game will decide whether a club will move on to the next phase.

The 2013 UFL Cup will see some major changes such as only five foreigners can play on the pitch for a team anytime as a new foreigner cap rule.

With the rapidly increasing fans base of the world’s most popular sport, UFL will begin ticketing for the first time and all matches will be hosted by the newly-finished Emperador Stadium with capacity of around 2,500 spectators.

The UFL has taken steps into the realm of fantasy sports by sealing a three-year partnership with FanXT, who have set up similar competitions in places like Finland, Hong Kong and India.

Fantasy sports is relatively new to the country which engages and encourages the fans to be well informed about teams and players

Meanwhile, UFL has announced a year-long sponsorship with Tigerair as the official airline.Founded in Singapore in 2003, Tigerair has been at the forefront of low-cost travel in the Asian region with flights to Southeast Asia, China, Australia and India.

As part of the agreement, Tigerair Philippines will provide domestic and international flights to lucky UFL fans that will participate in the upcoming seasons’ various competitions and promotions.
