By Aerol B. Pateña

Manila, (PNA) — The Department of Education (DepEd) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement today with the ICTSI Foundation, Inc. (ICTSI-FI) to co-host the golf tournament of the ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) which will be held on November 25-29, 2013.

The agreement authorizes the ICTSI-FI to supervise the actual games as one of the major sponsors and partners in the 2013 ASG Golf Tournament.

The foundation will also sponsor and handle the provision of the tournament director, referees, scorers and other services related to the actual technical administration of the games. They will provide for the use of the golf course, golf carts, caddy services, lockers, clubhouse, sound system and other equipments and facilities that are necessary for the games. They will also allocate spaces and areas within the golf course and playing venue where DepEd can post the advertisements of other sponsors of the competition.

“We truly appreciate the ICTSI Foundation for taking an active part in promoting sports among the ASEAN youth and in the process, nurturing the seed of solidarity among ASEAN neighbors,” DepEd Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro said in a statement.

Members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations namely the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore will participate in the event.

The Philippines, through DepEd, is a regular and active member of the ASEAN Schools Sports Council (ASSC) which conducts the annual ASG that aims to build relationships among students around the ASEAN region and provide opportunities for school athletes to engage in cultural exchange.
