KYOTO, Japan, (PNA/Itar-Tass) –About a thousand scientists, politicians and businessmen from more than a hundred countries have gathered in Kyoto for the 10th jubilee international forum devoted to the role of Science and Technology in Society (STS).
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will attend the forum that will open on Sunday. The Russian side will be represented by Russian Vice-Premier Arkady Dvorkovich.
The annual STS forum is a floor for a dialogue between the greatest minds of our time and representatives of business elite.
Professor Kodzi Omi, the president of the STS forum, believes that the synthesis of science, technologies and modern business is the future of mankind.
Japanese Minister of Education, Sport, Science and Technologies Hakobun Shimomura as well as representatives of Japan’s leading institutions of high learning and major corporations will also attend the forum.
Anatoly Chubais, the chairman of the governing board of the ROSNANO Company, is the permanent guest of the Kyoto forum, in which Russia is always well-represented. Professor Kodzi Omi believes that Russia has enormous potential.
Japanese scientist Shinya Yamanaka, the 2012 Nobel Prize winner in medicine, will also participate in the 2013 STS forum.
Russian Vice-Premier Arkady Dvorkovich has arrived in Kyoto from Tokyo where he led a Russian delegation at a meeting of the Russian-Japanese Consultative Council for modernization of the Russian economy.
The Council considered many projects in the sphere of power engineering, medicine, innovations, agriculture and logistics aimed at modernization and development of Russian economy.
Arkady Dvorkovich praised the meeting. He said that Japanese companies were actively operating in Russia while the general investment climate in the country was improving.
Many business representatives regard the STS forum as an opportunity to get acquainted with proposals to be made by the scientific community and find real solutions to their business projects.
Professor Kodzi Omi, the founder and president of the International Forum of STS, has told Itar-Tass in an exclusive interview that the STS forum has been developing dynamically so long as the need grew to improve the living standards of ordinary people and develop the economy. At the same time, the forum pays great attention to problems like global warming.
Kodzi Omi believed that the question of global warming and other urgent problems could be solved just by a group of scientists and a small group of countries.
He added that all countries and representatives of various circles should be involved in that process.
