BALI, Indonesia, (PNA/Xinhua) — As more leaders of the 21 APEC members are arriving, host Indonesia further tightened the security on Bali Island, where the two-day summit will be held starting Monday.
Some 4,924 policemen, including intelligence officers and the special counterterrorism squad were deployed to safeguard this major international event.
About 5,000 APEC delegates, 1,500 journalists and 400 business leaders are expected to attend the meetings.
The Army, Air Force and Navy would deploy special forces and a flotilla to oversee the Bali summit.
Road and air traffic control had already been deployed. The Bali International Airport will be closed to civilian flights during designated time on Oct. 6, 8 and 9.
The military will offer 24-hour protection to the visiting heads of states, and the police will take care of the ministers and other senior officials.
The 40 hotels and villas in Nusa Dua enclave, Tanjung Benoa and the surrounding area will host hundreds of high-profile delegates, including state leaders, ministers, diplomats and high-ranking officials of global organizations and CEOs of international corporations.
Travel agencies have already planned to place their regular guests at accommodation outside of Nusa Dua during the APEC Summit, which runs from Oct. 18.
