ZAMBOANGA CITY, (PNA) -– The resettlement project in Barangay Taluksangay, 19 kilometers east of this city, for families displaced by the standoff is set to start construction.
Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) secretary Corazon Soliman led the groundbreaking ceremony late Saturday, signaling the start of the construction of the resettlement project.
A total of 25 bunkhouses as well as 274 houses on stilts will be constructed, according to Soliman.
Each of the bunkhouses cost P100,000 and could accommodate 10 families.
“With this temporary shelter (bunkhouse), the evacuees can cook their own food in their respective bunkhouses,” Soliman said.
The resettlement project is a joint undertaking of the local government, DSWD and Habitat for Humanity.
The beneficiaries of the project are the displaced families currently housed at the Taluksangay National High School.
“We hope magawa natin in two to three weeks time ang mga bunkhouses. Ang unang ilalagay nating diyan ay yung nasa Taluksangay National High School para mabuksan ang paaralan,” Soliman said.
The families housed at Taluksangay National High School are among the thousands of families displaced by the standoff in this city.
