Update: Typhoon Ramil enters PHL

Posted on October 6, 2013

MANILA, (PNA) — Typhoon “Danas” (international name) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was named “Ramil”, the state weather forecaster said on Sunday.

“Ramil” is the first cyclone to visit the country this month and the 18th for this year.

PAGASA expects two to three cyclones to enter or develop inside the Philippine territory this month.

Weather Forecaster Joey Figuracion said that Ramil entered the country’s area of responsibility around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Figuracion said that as of 4 p.m. the eye of Typhoon “Ramil” was located based on all available data at 1,170 km East of Itbayat, Batanes (22.3°N 134.4°E) with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

Figuracion said that just like typhoon Quedan, Ramil will also have no direct effect in any part of the countrysince it remains too far from the Philippines’ landmass.

He said no public storm warning signals were raised since “Ramil” was too far to directly affect any part of the country.

Figuracion added they do not expect “Ramil” to hit any land in the country.

He said it will just pass over the eastern side of Northern Luzon by the sea and will move towards Ryukyu Islands in Japan, where it is expected to make landfall.

He added that Typhoon Ramil was forecast to move Northwest at 26 kph.

Firguracion said maintaining its speed and movement Ramil is expected to be out of the PAR by Monday afternoon heading towards Ryukyu, Japan.

Ramil is expected to be at 800 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes or Outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Figuracion said Mindanao, Western Visayas, and Palawan will continue to experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains until Monday because of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

The rest of the country including Metro Manila, he added, will have partly cloudy skies to at times cloudy with possible isolated rains mostly in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.
