MANILA, (PNA) — A fire of still unknown origin struck a portion of the Palacio Del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila Saturday noon.
The former houses various offices of the Commission of Elections (Comelec).
The fire started at the building at about 12:13 p.m.
Comelec spokesman James Arthur Jimenez allayed fears that the poll body’s offices were affected by the fire.
“Fire at the Palacio del Gobernador was on the sixth floor. Not Comelec, contrary to early fears. The fire has been put out,” Jimenez said in his Twitter account.
Manila Fire Department Senior Fire Officer 1 Raul Angeles said the fire reached the first alarm before it was placed under control at 12:20 p.m. No was hurt nor killed in the blaze.
Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the fire.
