MANILA, (PNA) — Typhoon Quedan (international name Fitow) is already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is moving closer towards the southern islands of Japan, the state weather bureau said Saturday.
Weather Forecaster Glaiza Escullar said that as of 4 p.m. the eye of Quedan was at 610 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes or at 410 km East of Northern Taiwan (25.3°N, 126.7°E) with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.
She said Quedan was not expected to recurve and would have no no direct effect on any part of the country since it is already far from the Philippines’ landmass.
Quedan is the 17th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year.
In the next 24 hours, Escullar said Palawan, Western and Central Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains until because of the Intertropical Convergence Zone.
