MANILA, (PNA) -– Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) corporate social responsibility arm HARI Foundation, Inc. (HFI) has launched a three-day boot camp for high school students in search of Hyundai college scholars and future scientists.

Dubbed as Hyundai New Thinkers Summit, HFI has chosen 40 public high schools to participate in the boot camp at Hotel H20 in Manila Ocean Park and will end Sunday.

HARI President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez told reporters that the summit tackles issues on climate change that will be the basis of the students of their new development.

”Forty public high schools have been invited. All these 40 public high schools are represented by their two students and one teacher. We will b tackling most relevant issue or the “in” issue in this time which is the climate change,” Perez said.

The New Thinker Summit will be composed of three series which includes oceanography, hydrology and deployment to poor communities.

”The third series will have an involvement to poor communities wherein they will develop or invent machines, equipments, (and) processes, so that it could address anything about climate change. From handling solid waste management, from coming up clean water, and then they will judge base on the project they have developed,” Perez noted.

She added that top winners of the summit will be automatic college scholars of Hyundai.

”We want to give opportunity to those brightest and underprivileged because we want them to become scientists, because that is what the country lacks,” said the HARI chief.

“These young children only need opportunity; they only need directions. Just give them the hope and courage and push them.”

Meanwhile, the boot camp slated this week is the first batch of Hyundai New Thinker Summit.

HFI is looking forward to extend the boot camp to other regions as the chosen 40 public high schools came from Metro Manila, Region III and IV.

The Hyundai New Thinker Summit is also a partnership of HFI with the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute which is the government’s arm in providing scholarships, awards, and grants and developing, implementing, and supporting programs to promote science and technology in the country.
