TACLOBAN CITY, (PNA) — The Dept. of Social Welfare and Development here said that a beneficiary of the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps) is not prevented from running this Oct 28 barangay elections.
However, they may be delisted from the roster after winning a seat because they are now entitled to a regular income being a barangay official.
The delisting is not automatic because they still have to undergo determination of their status, according to DSWD regional director Remia Tapispisan.
The program is extended to the poorest of the poor identified through the National Household Targeting System (NHTS).
They can be delisted if their household no longer has children zero to 17 years old, due to fraud, inclusion error or double entries and if the household head now has a regular monthly income of at least P10,000.
Nonetheless, the regional director added that 4Ps beneficiaries running for a post this barangay election is a sign that they really have been empowered as a result of their being a beneficiary of the poverty alleviation initiative.
She emphasized though that the use of the program as a campaign tool this elections is prohibited and its violation will merit a corresponding sanction.
