ZAMBOANGA CITY, (PNA) — Zamboanga City Water District cautioned residents living near riverbanks about its diversion dam’s water which rose Saturday, exceeding by 1.2 m normal level there.
“The diversion dam’s water level as of 11 a.m. Saturday is at 75.40 meters. ZCWD would like to advise residents living near riverbanks to take precautionary measures in case water level will continue to increase,” said ZCWD information officer Dolores Galvan.
The dam’s normal and critical water levels are 74.20 m and 76 m, respectively.
Galvan attributed the dam water’s rise to rain in the city since Friday.
Government’s weather agency said continuous rains in the city was spawned by the intertropical convergence zone in Mindanao, Palawan and Western Visayas while typhoon ‘Quedan’ moved northwest over the country.
ZCWD personnel are monitoring the situation as flooding in the city’s low-lying areas is possible if water level in the dam continues rising, Galvan said.
She said ZCWD already informed government agencies concerned about the dam’s situation.
The dam diverts part of Pasonanca River’s water to the ZCWD treatment plant.
