Bacolod City Police Office gets 204 firearms

Posted on October 4, 2013

BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — The Bacolod City Police Office headed by Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel received 204 Glock 17 Generation 4 9mm pistols from the Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) in rites held at the BCPO parade grounds Friday.

Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., police regional director, told the recipients to use their guns responsibly.

“I’m hoping that those who will receive the firearms will use it responsibly and perform well in their duty,” Cruz said.

He said the new firearms will be given to policemen who don’t have firearms issued by the Philippine National Police.

Some policemen who don’t have issued firearms use their own guns while on duty.

The new firearms will be issued to personnel with the ranks of Police Officers 1, 2 and 3.

However, Ordaniel said not all BCPO personnel who don’t have issued firearms will automatically be given guns because most of them failed to pass the firearms proficiency examination conducted at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) recently.

Out of the 164 policemen who underwent the firing examination, only 67 passed thus, only 67 personnel of the BCPO will be issued new firearms.

He said those who didn’t pass will undergo the next firing test using the Glock 17 firearms.Ordaniel said the policemen who will be issued new firearms are expected to care of their guns and to consider it as their “housewives.”

Other officials present during the turn-over rites were Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella; Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, acting NOPPO director; and Senior Supt. Ren Darroca, chief of PRO-6 Regional Logistics Division.
