MANILA, (PNA) — The World Health Organization (WHO) with ministers of health from the Western Pacific Region’s 37 countries will meet in Manila for its 64th session of Regional Committee for the Western Pacific.
It will be held on Oct. 21 to 25 and at the same time, a Regional Director will be nominated to review WHO’s work in the Region.
Various measures will also be discussed during the meeting to take in the face of challenges posed by a rapidly changing health environment.
WHO Director-General, Dr Margaret Chan, will attend and take the opportunity to discuss more about current and future health issues along with other WHO experts.
Meanwhile, Dr. Shin Young-soo, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, will update Member States on how WHO programs have fared since 2012.
Among the agenda items to be discussed are blindness prevention, aging and health, hepatitis B control, noncommunicable diseases, health systems strategies, civil registration and vital statistics, the Millennium Development Goals on maternal and child health.
It will also tackle the prevention and treatment of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, the International Health Regulations, tuberculosis prevention and control, immunization and resistance to the frontline anti-malaria drug artemisinin.
