MANILA, (PNA) — The Sandiganbayan has a new presiding justice.
He is Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, the newest and youngest magistrate of the Anti-Graft Court for having been appointed only last year.
Tang garnered five votes from the Judicial and Bar Council which screens nomination for the judicial and Ombudsman post.
According to a reliable source, President Benigno S. Aquino III signed Thursday night the appointment papers of Tang.
Before she was appointed to the Sandiganbayan, Tang served as Assistant Solicitor General.
As Assistant Solicitor General, Tang filed the pleading that opposed the plea bargaining agreement between the Office of the Ombudsman and former Armed Forces of the Philippines comptroller retired Maj. Gen. Carlos F. Garcia.
With the appointment of Tang, the senior justices of the Sandiganbayan were bypassed and this is the first time that a junior justice was appointed in the highest post in the Anti-Graft Court.
