MANILA, (PNA) — The victory of the first Filipino Miss World, Megan Young, according to Sen. Francis Escudero on Thursday was a “needed respite from political and social ills”.
Escudero commended Young for besting candidates from 126 countries to win for the Philippines its first Miss World title, saying her win was a great source of pride and inspiration amid the conflicts confronting the nation.
“We toast Megan and all our fellow Filipinos who illuminate our pride as a nation and raise our consciousness as a people under one flag,” Escudero said in a statement.
He filed Senate Resolution No. 281 to honor and recognize Young not only for making history for the country, but for telling the whole world about “her story” on what Filipinos can achieve in the international arena.
The senator said Young exemplified the true beauty and aspiration of every Filipino when she took home the crown during Miss World pageant held over the weekend in Bali, Indonesia.
He said that the respite was a good change for Filipinos as they aspire to be a better people struggling “to make a difference in life and for the country,” the senator said in his resolution.
