ILOILO CITY, (PNA) — A village chieftain survived while his nephew was killed in an ambush Wednesday in Calinog, Iloilo.
Police report revealed that Eustaquio Porras, head of Barangay Lonoy, was on board a motorcycle driven by his nephew Micmay Lemana on their way to the Calinog town proper when five men fired at them.
Porras was able to jump from the motorcycle but his nephew was killed immediately.
Chief Insp. Rogelio Ortigas, chief of Calinog Municipal Police Station, said the ambush has nothing to do with the coming barangay elections as they see revenge as the motive.
Ortigas said that Porras and his slain nephew are facing charges for frustrated murder after they were involved in a shooting incident in Calinog Poblacion early last month that wounded Nolie Insular.
Porras voluntarily placed himself under police custody due to threats against his life.
The Calinog police arrested Herme Cataluna of Barangay Lonoy as he was positively identified by Porras as one of the suspects.
