MANILA, (PNA) — Sixty-nine gun ban violators have been arrested under the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, the Philippine National Police (PNP)said on Thursday.
Police Senior Superintendent Wilben Mayor, PNP spokesman, said that 69 persons, mostly civilians, have been apprehended for carrying firearms amid the gun ban that started last Friday.
Mayor said as of 7:49 a.m. Thursday, arrested violators were 64 civilians, two police officers, two security guards and one government official.
Also confiscated were 58 firearms, 21 bladed weapons, 11 explosives, four grenades, three firearm replicas and 502 rounds ammunition.
“PNP chief Police Director General Alan Purisima, assures that the PNP will remain vigilant in its law enforcement and security operations to ensure Safe and Fair Election,” Mayor said.
The gun ban is being implemented by the PNP and other law enforcement agencies since the election period started September 28 until November 12, which is 30 days before, and 15 days after the October 28 barangay elections.
