CAMP GEN. SIMEON OLA, Legazpi City, (PNA) – Ten persons, including the boat captain, were saved by responding fishermen after the vessel ferrying them to Bulan town center in Sorsogon from their coastal village sank in the sea off the town at about 10:30 a.m., Wednesday.
A police report identified the victims as Jarwin Yohanon, boat captain; Maricris Sacopon, 26, Aliza Sacopon, 3, Cristy Francisco, 27, Javisar Rosana, 9, Nardito Leyte. 41, Michael Ramadilla, 31, Donna Yohanon, 27, Virter Navarro and Andy Almoguera – passengers and all residents of Barangay Cabarawan, Bulan, Sorsogon.
The victims were brought to the Bulan Hospital for treatment.
The report said the boat, M/B Megelyn, was en route to Bulan town proper from Barangay Cabarawan when big waves hit it, causing sea water to come in until it eventually sank.
Fishermen in the area immediately came to the passengers’ rescue and brought them to the hospital for treatment of various injuries they got.
