ZAMBOANGA CITY, (PNA) –The Crisis Management Committee (CMC) has passed a resolution requesting the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to postpone the holding of the barangay elections in view of the prevailing situation in this city.
Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, who chairs the CMC, said the resolution was passed when the Committee met Wednesday afternoon in City Hall.
Salazar said the CMC in the same resolution has also asked the Comelec to exempt this city from the imposition of the gun ban.
The election gun ban took effect last September 27 and will remain in effect until November or one month after the October 28 barangay elections.
Comelec Commission Christian Lim, who was present during the meeting, has committed to recommend to Comelec en banc the postponement of barangay polls in the city as well as the exemption because of the extraordinary situation here.
“Commissioner Lim will bring this matter to Manila and he assured us that the result will come this October 11,” City Administrator Antonio Orendain, Jr. said.
