ILOILO CITY, (PNA) –Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he is amenable to the proposal of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to transfer the Infante flyover in Molo District to another area if the structure poses danger to the community.
DPWH-6 Regional Director Edilberto Tayao consulted Mabilog recently over the plan for the widening of the diversion bridge and the widening and expansion of Infante St. up to the Iloilo fishing port complex in Tanza St.
Mabilog said he was told that two major posts of the flyover will be affected by the road widening project and there is an urgent need to take out and transfer the flyover from the area at the intersection of Infante and Gen. Luna streets.p>The Infante flyover was constructed in 2005 under the Presidential Bridge Program during the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. It was the first flyover to be constructed in the city. The second flyover is located at the intersection of Jalandoni and Gen. Luna Sts.
Mabilog suggested the transfer of flyover to growing communities and busy street intersections preferably at the circumferential and radial roads or at the street intersection of Ungka going to airport in Jaro district.
