MANILA, (PNA) — Three moderate earthquakes struck parts of Visayas and Mindanao on Thursday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In its bulletin, the agency said the first tremor in Negros Oriental with a magnitude of 3.6 occurred at 5:58 a.m.
Its epicenter was traced 18 kilometers southeast of of Santa Catalina in Negros Oriental. The quake had a depth of one kilometer.
Phivolcs also said the quake at Intensity 4 was felt in Valencia, Negros Oriental; while Intensity 3 in Dumaguete City and Intensity 2 in Sibulan, Negros Oriental.
At around 8:52 a.m., the second tremor, with a magnitude of 4.6, occurred in Southern Leyte.
Its epicenter was located 6o kilometers northeast of Silago in Southern Leyte with a depth of seven kilometers.
The agency said that Intensity 3 also occurred in Silago, Southern Leyte and Intensity 2 in Hinunangan, Southern Leyte.
The third quake measuring a magnitude of 3.4 occurred at 10:31 a.m. Its epicenter was traced at 12 kilometers southwest of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental. The tremor had a depth of 109 kilometers.
Phivolcs said there were no damage or casualty reported from the three temblors, which were all tectonic in origin.
The agency added that they also do not expect aftershocks from these quakes.
Phivolcs earlier said an average of 20 to 25 earthquakes per day is recorded across the country since the Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where frequent earthquakes are common.
