CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, (PNA) -– The City Council’s committee on education urged the city mayor to convene the regulatory and complaint board to address plaints of parents and school officials involving alleged illegal firms operating within the school premises here.
City Councilor Adrian Barba, chair of the education committee, said on Wednesday that parents and school officials had complained of the proliferation of clandestine “internet cafes” within the regulated school premises affecting the students.
“We are concerned of the grade school pupils who frequent these internet outfits without the knowledge of parents and school officials,” Barba said.
Barba said that the city council has passed a resolution asking the city mayor to formally convene the RCB so that representatives of various agencies, especially the police could be part of the board.
“At the moment, the city’s committee on education is helpless since the committee is not cloth with police power inherent of the regulatory board to act on the complaints,” Barba added.
He said that once the regulatory board is convened, the board could implement the 200 linear-meter stipulated in an existing Ordinance prohibiting internet cafe and beer houses to operate near school premises.
