ILOILO CITY, (PNA) — The former Commission on Elections (Comelec) regional director and his neighbor were rendered homeless by the fire that hit Brgy. Javellana, Jaro, Iloilo City early Wednesday afternoon.
The fire which broke out past 2 p.m. razed to the ground the two-story residence of former Comelec regional director Atty. Hector Masna and that of his neighbor Rudy Golez before the responding fire trucks arrived.
In its investigation, the Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire started at the house of Golez before it spread to Masna’s residence.
The Masnas is fortunate enough to salvage the family-owned vehicle during the incident.
Likewise, a neighbor’s house owned by Roy Formoso has been partially damaged by the early afternoon blaze.
The responding firefighters battled the fire for almost an hour before they could declare the fire out.
Most structures in the vicinity were boarding houses which caters to student boarders who were seen rushing their way home from their school to salvage their personal belongings.
Fire authorities has yet to determine the damage to property.
