MOSCOW, (PNA/Itar-Tass) — Investigators in Dagestan established the identity of the suicide bomber who blasted himself near the police station in the village of Khuchni, Tabarsan district, on Sept 23.
He is Azim Mukailov, a 25-year-old resident of the village of Kushtil, Khivsky district, the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass on Wednesday, citing DNA test results.
“At 8:00 local time on September 23, Mukailov, who was driving a car, rammed the district police station fence and set off the explosive device in his car. Two police were killed and another 16 personnel among whom were civilians were taken to hospital.
The police department and cars parked nearby were damaged. According to preliminary estimate, the bomb yield was some 70 kilograms of TNT.
Mukailov was a member of the Yuzhnaya sabotage and terrorist group, police said. He was involved in the attempted murder of Abdulla Ramazanov, a paramedic of the 102nd interior troops brigade on December 29, 2011, and in June 20112, he killed the head of the village of Lyakh, Tabarsan district. Police put him on the federal wanted list after the murder. The SK is checking him for involvement in other serious and very serious crimes, including the crimes related to extremism and terrorism.
Dagestan police are continuing the search for the masterminds of the September 23 terrorist attack.
