DUMAGUETE CITY, (PNA) –- The city government of Dumaguete has turned over a P4.5 million multi-purpose gymnasium to Barangay Tinago in a simple blessing and inauguration ceremony Monday.
Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria and Rep. George Arnaiz of the 2nd district of Negros Oriental led the turnover rites, which was also attended by Barangay Tinago chairperson Orlando Angot and members of the barangay council.
The covered basketball court/multi-purpose gymnasium was built with funds from the city government amounting to P3 million and an allocation of P1.5 million from the Priority Development Assistance Fund or pork barrel of Rep. Arnaiz.
Following the turnover of the gymnasium, the city government will soon transfer all basketball activities from the existing basketball court at the City Hall quadrangle to Barangay Tinago, said Syril Repe of the city information office. The Tinago barangay council will be managing the facility, he said.
The City Hall quadrangle will be then utilized as parking area for those doing transactions with the city, Repe added.
Meanwhile, Mayor Sagarbarria announced during the turn over ceremony that the city will also build a stage the Tinago multi-purpose gymnasium for other activities outside of basketball.
Also, the city engineer’s office will be constructing additional overhang roofing at the said gymnasium for further protection from the rains, Repe said.
