LAGOS, (PNA/Xinhua) — Nigeria’s main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday strongly condemned the Sunday attacks that left many students of the College of Agriculture in northeast Yobe State dead and several others injured.
The party in a statement reaching Xinhua in Lagos, described the killings as dastardly, senseless and indefensible.
At least 40 students of the College of Agriculture were killed by gunmen of the Boko Haram sect in the early hours of Sunday.
The APC appealed to the sect to cease all attacks and embrace dialogue in the interest of national peace and security.
A ceasefire should be observed without further delay, the acting spokesperson for APC, Lai Mohammed, told reporters.
The party called on traditional, religious, political and opinion leaders in the affected areas to intervene urgently to end the cycle of violence being perpetrated by the sect.
