Silay City awarded anew as best tourism-oriented LGU in Negros Occidental

Posted on October 1, 2013

BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — For implementing a sustainable tourism development program, Silay City was awarded for the second consecutive year as the “Best Tourism-Oriented Local Government Unit” of the Province of Negros Occidental.

Silay City’s triumph was announced during the Provincial Tourism Excellence Awards ceremony held Sunday at the Ayala Northpoint, The District mall in Talisay City.

Held as part of the Provincial Tourism Week celebration, the Awards recognized Silay City for sustainable tourism as defined in the Tourism Act of 2009.

“This award is not possible without the help of all tourism stakeholders. I hope that this could be an inspiration not only for the people of Silay to do more but for the entire province as well. We should work hard toward our tourism goals to help the economy of Negros,” Councilor Neil Solomon Locsin, chairman of committee on tourism, said.

Silay City was also second place in both Best Tourism Month Celebration and Best Tourism Event-Cultural Category for the Hugyaw Kansilay Festival and Christmas Village Celebration.

Meanwhile, Silay City’s entries to various competitions also excelled.

John Mark Arado and Nikki Jamelle Hojilla of Don Eustaquio Hofileña Memorial Elementary School won second and third places, respectively, in the Provincial Tourism Quiz while Joseph Aaron Celestial was declared champion in the Tour Guiding Competition.

Police Officer 3 Joemarie Lachica of Silay City Police Station was also champion in the Tourism Police Tour Guiding Competition.
