BEIJING, (PNA/ANTARA) — Indonesia has not become a favorite destination country for Chinese students because Indonesia has not yet had a standard of academic study qualification program and high education the Chinese government has recognized, an Indonesian diplomat said.
Speaking to Antara here on Tuesday, the Indonesian Education Attache at the Indonesian Embassy Chaerun Anwar said that the number of Chinese students studying in Indonesia up to July 2013 was recorded at 327 persons.
“You can compare it with the number of Indonesian students studying in China which reaches 13,114 students, both for degree and for non degree study programs,” he said.
Chaerun said that in ASEAN, the main destination countries for Chinese students are Singapore (88,457 students) and Thailand (12,712). They are followed by Malaysia (8,965), Vietnam (1,079) and the Philippines (452).
Indonesia is in the sixth position. In fact, Chinese students have the great potential and interest in studying in Indonesia. But due to the absence of the qualification of academic study programs and higher eduction institutions recognized by the Chinese government, the high interest of Chinese students becomes small.
