UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK, (PNA/IRNA) — Visiting Foreign Minister of Lebanon Adnan Mansour welcomed telephone conversation between presidents of Iran and US calling it a new chapter in Iran-US ties which could have positive and promising impacts on the Middle East region.
Speaking exclusively to IRNA, Mansur said the new change in Iran-US relations is highly significant.
US President Barack Obama and President Hassan Rohani held a historic telephone conversation on Friday (September 27), while the Iranian President was on his way to the J.F.K airport.
It is the first time US and Iranian leaders have spoken directly since 1979.
The two presidents underlined the need for a political will for expediting resolution of West’s standoff with Iran over the latter’s nuclear program.
President Rohani and President Obama stressed the necessity for mutual cooperation on different regional issues.
