BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — The Sangguiang Panlungsod (SP) here has asked the Office of the City Mayor to implement the ordinance seeking the installation of close-circuit television (CCTV) units in various areas in this city.
City Ordinance No. 595, or the Bacolod City Eye in the Sky Comprehensive Closed-Circuit Television Ordinance was passed by the SP and approved by former mayor and now congressman Evelio Leonardia on July 17, 2012.
The SP resolution addressed to the Office of the City Mayor states that “the installation of CCTVs has been an effective deterrent against the proliferation of street crimes and the monitoring of the traffic situation in the city.”
The CCTV Ordinance, authored by Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez, provides that CCTVs be installed by the city government in key strategic places in Bacolod City.
These include main thoroughfares, major artery roads, busy and congested areas like the public market and city government-run transport terminals, parks and other facilities.
In March this year, initial CCTV units were installed in the downtown area along the Araneta-Luzuriaga Sts. in front of the Bacolod City Hall.
There was also a plan to install a CCTV at the Bacolod Government Center.
