DAMASCUS, (PNA/RIA Novosti) -– The UN chemical weapons inspection team in Syria may not be able to visit all sites of the alleged chemical weapons use in the country before its mission ends Monday, the team’s leader told RIA Novosti on Saturday, adding that a new inspection was possible.
Professor Ake Sellstrom, the head of the inspection team, said the current visit could not be extended, but the possibility of a new inspection “will be considered.”
The UN has said the team will inspect seven possible sites of alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria.
However, given the time constraint, the team will have to decide which sites to visit and which it could not visit, Sellstrom said, without providing further details.
The team arrived in Syria on August 18 and inspected some locations near Damascus for the possible use of chemical weapons.
