PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, (PNA/Itar-Tass) — The resolution on Syria adopted by the United Nations Security Council underscores the inadmissibility for non-state forces, such as the opposition, to have chemical weapons in their hands, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Russian Television Channel One on Saturday.
The document notes that all the U.N. member states, first of all neighbours of Syria, must take measures to prevent use of their territory to supply chemical weapons to the opposition, the minister said.
Moscow believes experts of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the United Nations will work in Syria professionally, impartially and with full respect for the country’s sovereignty, he noted.
Russia is ready to participate in the operation in Syria in all its components, the minister said.
The resolution rules out use of force, he emphasized.
The document notes that if any of the Syrian parties — the government or the opposition — puts a spoke in the wheel in the work of inspectors and if anybody in Syria uses chemical weapons, the cases will be immediately reported to the U.N. Security Council.
The SC will respond if facts of use of chemical weapons are convincingly and unequivocally proved, Lavrov said, adding that in such a case a new resolution would be adopted.
