PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, (PNA) — Around 1,500 people from various parts of this city benefited from the medical mission facilitated by Rear Admiral Miguel Jose S. Rodriguez Saturday as he prepares for his retirement.
The medical mission, was conducted in Barangay Maoyon in cooperation with the City Health Office, the Naval Forces West, 570th Composite Tactical Wing, Joint Task Force Peacock, 3rd Marine Brigade, 4th Marine Battalion Landing Team, and the 6th Civil Relations Group.
Rodriguez said the medical mission is his “birthday gift” to Palaweños as he prepares to bow out of active military service when he reaches the compulsory retirement age.
He wanted to leave a legacy for the Palaweños, he said, as they have been very supportive of him and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Rodriguez’ medical mission targeted indigent residents, especially the indigenous people (IPs) in the clustered barangays of Puerto Princesa City.
He added he would like to make his retirement and birthday celebration more meaningful because he knows many people needed it.
He urges Puerto Princesans to refer people they know from the northern part of the city who need medical check-up, saying he is aware that the prohibitive cost of medical treatment discourages the poor from seeking medical attention.
