ANKARA, (PNA/IRNA) -– A Turkish political analyst has said that war advocates who sought to wage war in Syria on the pretext of using chemical weapons have failed.
Speaking to IRNA exclusively, Hassan Meheli made the remarks commenting on US-Russia recent agreement on elimination of Syria’s chemical weapons.
The United States and Russia agreed on Thursday on a UN Security Council draft resolution that would demand Syria give up its chemical arms, but does not threaten military force if it fails to comply.
Noting that terrorist groups possess chemical weapons, the scholar said Syrian Army has discovered various types of chemical gases including the Sarin gas after storming warehouses of the so-called Free Syrian Army or the al-Qaeda and al-Nusrat terrorist groups in Syria.
Releasing certain images on social networks, the terrorist groups even proudly announced that they had possessed chemical weapons, Meheli said.
He added, it was later confirmed by Russian and western intelligence sources that those weapons were provided to the Syrian terrorist groups by the Zionist regime.
He expressed concern that Tel Aviv would probably provide chemical weapons to its regional allied terrorist groups aimed at creating tensions.
Meheli said presence of the terrorist groups in Syria, the al-Qaeda and al-Nusrat in particular, was the source of real concern for the region as up to 80 percent of their members were not Syrians.
