Posted on September 28, 2013

MAASIN CITY, (PNA) — Emy Rose Dael and John Michael Castro gifted Bacolod City with girls’ and boys’ singles and mixed doubles titles to rule the table tennis competition in the 2013 Batang Pinoy Visayas Leg here Friday afternoon.

During the matches held at Asuncion Badminton Hall, Dael beat Cebu City’s Jera Mae Saromines in the quarterfinals and Diana Oliverio in the semifinals to arrange a titular showdown with Iloilo Province’s Kimberly Sorongon whom she beat, 3-0, to take the girls’ singles crown.

Castro defeated Vincent Salera of Mandaue City to face J. Allan Noel Gayoso of Iloilo Province in the semis. He defeated Jann Marie Nayre of Mandaue City to capture the boys’ singles title.

It was an all-Bacolod City affair in the mixed doubles finals, with the tandem of Dael and Castro beating teammates Neil John Lauren and Ann Gella Borbon in three sets.

In the quarterfinals, Dael and Castro defeated Kent Edwin Abellarosa and Diana Oliverio of Cebu, while Lauren and Borbon did the same against Jason Demarle and Kimberly Sorongon of Iloilo Province.

In the semifinals, Dael and Castro won over John Niño Gayoso and Sorongon to arrange an all-Bacolod match in the mixed double finals.

The Bacolod City players are trained by former national player Marell Lagunday under the Lopue’s Table Tennis Association (LOPTTA) owned by businessman Leonito “Diotay” Lopue.
