QCPL to celebrate 65th year of service

Posted on September 28, 2013

MANILA, (PNA) — In celebration of the 65th founding anniversary of the Quezon City Public Library (QCPL) on October 7, 2013, library’s accomplishments for the past 65 years and its incoming programs will be highlighted.

This was disclosed over the weekend by QCPL head Ms. Emelita Villanueva as she cited some activities line-up for the upcoming celebration.

“The celebration dubbed “QCPL@65: Remembering the Past, Innovating the Future” will highlight the city library’s programs which have encouraged a great number of book enthusiasts to go to the city’s libraries,” said Villanueva. She said that during the festivity, the QCPL will mount a one-of-the-kind three-phase photo exhibit, to be presented in big book format.

“That will showcase the QCPL’s mandate to innovate, to inform and to inspire stakeholders,” she explained.

The exhibit will run from October 7 to 11, 2013 at the QC Hall main lobby in time for the celebration of Quezon City’s 74th founding anniversary this month.

According to Villanueva, the photo display will feature the successful practices, projects and programs that the QCPL had undertaken for the past 65 years – encouraging QC residents to read books most advantageous to them especially to students.

“With our humble way of promoting books and other reading materials, the QCPL had successfully attracted more and more visitors and library-goers in its 65 years of existence,” Villanueva said.

The QCPL will also launch its social media account that will show the timeline of events that shaped Quezon City since its establishment 74 years ago.

This includes QC local history and law research blog site which will digitalize past and present local materials, and ordinances converted into E-book.

Local executives whose municipalities benefited from the QCPL’s beyond QC borders activities through its “Adopt a Library” program are expected to join the anniversary celebration.

Mayors Milbert L. Oliveros of Cavinti, Laguna and Rodelo T. Tena of Jomalig, Quezon have expressed their willingness to celebrate with the QCPL to show their modest appreciation of the city library’s assistance and to accept additional QCPL book donations to 5 barangays in their municipalities.

There will also be an oath-taking ceremony of the officials of a booklovers club of greater Project 4 that QCPL had help organize.

At present, there are ongoing talks between the QC government thru the QCPL and QC book publishers for a possible donation of at least 3 copies of newly published books from each publisher for the QCPL reference corner.
