UK energy firm executive lauds PHL govt’s advocacy in renewable energy

Posted on September 27, 2013

By Josine Estuye

MANILA, (PNA) –- The Philippine government is doing a really good job to encourage investments in renewable energy, a British energy company head said Friday.

Mike Murphy, Pacific Rim Managing Director of CiDRA Corporate Services Inc., and one of the six British delegates, visiting the Philippines for opportunities in the energy sector, said aside from the vast energy sources, he envy the country’s government’s commitment to renewable energy.

“The Philippine government is doing a really good job to encourage investments in renewable energy. I actually met with people from the Department of Energy this week, and I’ve seen very positive things. The organization can proactively inject ideas into investments, into energy schemes in the Philippines,” Murphy stressed.

“Also, they are creating programs to solve and encourage firm companies to bring the technology for the energy sector,” he added.

“So I think it’s certainly leading the world in terms of demonstrating how to embrace renewable energy, hydro, solar, accepting clean offshore gas,” he further stated.

Murphy also added that the country’s huge energy source is another edge of the energy sector.

“I’m very envious to all the energy that you have. It’s a country of vast resources in terms of geothermal and also in terms of hydro and gas reserves. You don’t have to worry about nuclear power plant impacts,” he said.

The CiDRA head said given this energy source and the government’s plans in renewable energy, he expects that the energy sector in the Philippines will continue to bloom.

Meanwhile, he also confirmed that they are eyeing major energy companies in the Philippines, as potential customers.

Murphy said they have had talks with Philex Mining Corporation, Shell, Energy Development Corporation and more.

CiDRA Corporate Services Inc. provides service offerings related to flow management and assurance, overall plant monitoring and process optimization in industries like mining, oilsands, power generation, chemical management and pulp and paper applications.

CiDRA products and services are being used by over 350 customers in over 30 countries.
