SP regulates PUJs, cargo trucks, trisikads in Lapuz district

Posted on September 27, 2013

ILOILO CITY, (PNA) -– The Sangguniang Panlungsod has enacted an ordinance regulating the public utility jeepneys, cargo trucks and trisikads in the district of Lapuz in this city in a move to put order to these vehicles in using the streets and ease out traffic congestion in the area.

City councilor Plaridel Nava introduced the regulation ordinance which was passed smoothly by the city council to differentiate the Bo Obrero and Lapuz PUJs plying and operating in Lapuz.

Nava said that more often than not, there have been complaints of over-lapping in the jurisdiction where passengers are loaded and unloaded, reckless driving and over-speeding of cargo trucks passing the entire stretch of Rizal and Don Esteban Jalandoni streets.

Nava also said that the existence and operation of trisikads in Lapuz has not been properly regulated thereby creating traffic disarray and congestion in the main thoroughfare, junctions and even alleys. Also, road parking is prevalent in the major streets.

The ordinance shall prohibit all Bo Obrero PUJs from loading passengers going to the city proper starting from the corner of Abanilla St until the Quirino Lopez Bridge. The Bo Obrero PUJs shall only be allowed to pick up passengers when going back to the direction of Bo. Obrero.

Violation of this provision shall be penalized by a fine of P300 to be paid at the city treasurer’s office. Similarly, no trisikad shall be allowed to traverse and ply the entire road of Brgy. Rizal Lapuz Sur to Bo Obrero plaza but are allowed to carry passengers from Brgy. Jalandoni Estate and Libertad to Brgy. Don Esteban, Sinikway, Alalasan and Punong by passing through Abanilla St.

After unloading its passengers, trisikads shall immediately go back and shall be prohibited from picking up passengers along the way from point of destination until reaching the point of origin.

Similarly, parking is prohibited in the entire stretch of the road from Brgy. Rizal to Bo Obrero Plaza.

The ordinance shall take effect after 10 days from publication in a newspaper of general circulation in Western Visayas.
