MANILA, (PNA) — Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Friday advised Atty. Lorna Kapunan to take it easy when it comes to releasing to the media information about the case of her client Janet Lim Napoles.
De Lima said the act of Kapunan of presenting to the media the pieces of evidence to counter the case of serious illegal detention filed against the alleged “brains” in the pork barrel scam, can be considered as a violation of the “Sub Judice Rule.”
Among those shown by Kapunan to the media were the pictures grabbed from a footage of a closed-circuit television camera at the Pacific Plaza Tower in Bonifacio Global City, and the letter of Benhur Luy to his family stating that it was his own personal decision to enter into a retreat house in Makati City last December.
According to Kapunan, the said pieces of evidence would prove it was not true that it was against Luy’s own personal will to remain in the custody of Napoles and her brother Reynald Lim.
De Lima explained under the Sub Judice Rule, it is not proper for Kapunan to discuss with the media the pieces of evidence, especially so that the court is hearing the motion for bail filed by Napoles.
