Posted on September 26, 2013

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, (PNA)– The provincial government plans to field a solid Pangasinan team in the Batang Pinoy Northern Luzon leg in Iba, Zambales on Oct. 15- 19.

This is the objective of province-wide elimination games Sept 28-29 in various locations other than in Lingayen and in Dagupan City.

Hundreds of Pangasinense athletes, 15 years and below, and sports officials are expected to participate in the province-wide eliminations.

The Narciso Ramos Sports and Civil Center will serve as the main venue of tournaments while other sporting events will be played in other locations ..

Modesto Operania, executive assistant III and provincial sports director, said Gov. Amado Espino Jr. ordered the holding of province-wide eliminations to determine the best young Pangasinense athletes and latyer train them for the NL leg of Batang Pinoy.

From a fifth-ranked province in 2011, the province of Pangasinan nailed the over-all championship when the province hosted the Batang Pinoy NL leg last year.

Athletes who will win in various sporting events during the eliminations will undergo a series of training to keep their momentum for the NL leg, Operania added.

Local Government Units in Pangasinan are expected to send the best athletes who will vie for domination in 18 sporting events which include: arnis, archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, karatedo, volleyball, cycling, gymnastics, basketball, dance Sports, softball and baseball.

The Batang Pinoy…YES (Youth Excellence in Sports) is a program launched by the Philippine Sports Commission for young athletes — that serves as base for sports specialization including training for higher level leagues, national and international tournaments.

The program also seeks to address the need for a grassroots sports program centered on values formation inherent in the practice of sports.
