LUCENA CITY, Quezon (PNA) -– The Quezon Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), in partnership with the ABE International Business School and village folk, conducted a massive coastal clean-up this week in Purok 4, Barangay Dalahican, this city.
The group recovered over 40 sacks of non-biodegradable wastes on the Lucena shorelines as the venue for the clean-up drive in observance of the International Coastal Clean-up Month this September.
Manny Calayag, provincial assistant head of PG-ENRO, said the International Coastal Clean-up activities form part of the Memorandum of Understanding of the joint undertakings and partnerships of PG-ENRO, ABE business school and Barangay Dalahican.
The environment events also aim to protect the planted mangrove propagules and ensure their growth and survival under the historic “Quezon’s 2 in 1” massive planting activities in the province launched last year.
The program also sustains clean coastal localities where the mangroves are planted and protected.
It also aims to protect barangay residents from coastal soil erosion, strong currents and enrich fish and aquatic resources in the area.
Calayag said they enjoined the ABE school officials and students to conduct information and education campaign in the said barangay to encourage residents in maintaining cleanliness in the locality.
The coastal clean-up gathered some 200 people from PG-ENRO, teachers, students of ABE, 4Ps beneficiaries and barangay Dalahican officials led by Barangay Captain Merdeline Bautista.
