NEW YORK, (PNA/Kyodo) — Microblogging service Twitter rolled out an emergency alert system for smartphones in the United States, Japan and South Korea on Wednesday, it said on the day of the launch.
The new service, Twitter Alerts, allows reliable information from trusted public authorities to rapidly reach users during natural disasters and other emergencies.
Several U.S. authorities had registered to provide alerts as of Wednesday, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.
